Power Conversion for Wind Energy
Overview
You will learn how to model and control wind turbines with a focus on power conversion. Different levels of model fidelity used in the same model will allow details from studying harmonic distortion at the microsecond level to yearlong power system studies based on expected wind patterns. This seminar will use Simscape Electrical: Specialized Power Systems.
Highlights
- Simulating a Type 4 wind generator and a grid load
- Designing and tuning control algorithms for regulating voltage and maintaining grid synchronization using a phase-locked loop
- Taking advantage of WECC Simulink based controllers to support closed loop control and issues like low voltage ride through
- Change fidelity to support switching events, average based simulations, or phasor simulations
