Description
BlackBerry® QNX® is a trusted supplier of safe and secure operating systems, hypervisors, frameworks, and development tools, and provides expert support and services for building the world’s most critical embedded systems. The company’s technology is trusted in more than 195 million vehicles and is deployed in embedded systems around the world, across a range of industries. Founded in 1980, BlackBerry QNX is headquartered in Ottawa, Canada and was acquired by BlackBerry in 2010.
BlackBerry QNX software and development tools are standards-based and enable companies to adopt a scalable software platform strategy across product lines and business units. The BlackBerry QNX software portfolio, including our safety pre-certified product versions, is purpose built for embedded systems and scales to support everything from single-purpose devices to highly complex, mixed-criticality platforms. Customers rely on Blackberry QNX support and professional services teams to provide the expertise they need – throughout the entire product development lifecycle.
Thousands of companies have deployed QNX’s real-time operating systems to ensure the ideal combination of performance, security, and reliability in mission-critical systems. At the core of QNX technology is the QNX Neutrino® Real-time operating system (RTOS), a full-featured, POSIX-compliant, RTOS enabling next-generation products in every industry where reliability matters, including automotive, medical devices, robotics, transportation, heavy machinery, and industrial embedded systems.
Key features include:
Microkernel Reliability - The QNX Neutrino RTOS’s microkernel architecture isolates every application, driver, protocol stack, and filesystem in its own address spaces outside the kernel. This means that a failed component won’t take down other components or the kernel; it can be restarted immediately, with minimal impact on system performance.
Real-Time Availability - The QNX Neutrino RTOS offers the determinism only a real-time OS can provide. Techniques such as adaptive partitioning guarantee critical processes get the cycles they need to complete their tasks on time, while maintaining the performance your complex embedded systems require.
Comprehensive, Layered Security - With the QNX Neutrino RTOS’s layered security features and access to QNX security experts, you can take a holisitic approach to security and implement exactly the security profiles your embedded systems require.
Scalablility - Designed to scale on the latest generation of multicore SoCs, including ARMv8 and x86-64, the QNX Neutrino RTOS supports both asymmetric multiprocessing (AMP) and symmetric multiprocessing (SMP), as well as bound multiprocessing (BMP), a QNX improvement on standard SMP processor affinity.
Board Support Packages (BSPs) - Supported by an extensive library of BSPs for a broad selection of ARMv8, x86-64 and older boards.
The QNX OS is supported by field-proven development tools (QNX Software Development Platform) and extended through feature-rich middleware (QNX Platform for ADAS, etc.), and engineering services. BlackBerry QNX also offers versions of the embedded OS pre-certified to IEC 61508 SIL 3, ISO 26262 ASIL D, and other functional safety standards (QNX OS for Safety, QNX Hypervisor for Safety).
The QNX Neutrino RTOS, along with command-line build tools, are all provided as part of Simulink Real-Time™ for customers doing rapid prototyping and hardware-in-the-loop testing. The run-time components and tools are all fully integrated with both Simulink Real-Time and Speedgoat real-time target computers. This enables a turn-key hardware and software solution, using a reliable, commercial-grade RTOS, proven through years of embedded deployments.
