Agentic AI opens new possibilities for engineering work in Simulink®, but effective use requires a structured approach that fits established engineering practices. The concepts and techniques taught in this course are not specific to a particular LLM, enabling participants to apply what they learn with the large language models and AI tools that best fit their organization.

This course introduces a practical workflow for using agentic AI as an engineering tool within Simulink. Participants learn to work with agents using context, tools, and human-in-the-loop review to support common engineering tasks. They gain hands-on experience building, inspecting, and modifying models with the Simulink Agentic Toolkit; applying agentic workflows to simulation, verification, debugging, and documentation; and creating reusable custom skills that improve consistency and incorporate domain knowledge.

  • Recognize how agentic AI systems use context, tools, and review loops to support Simulink engineering tasks

  • Build, inspect, and edit basic models using the Simulink Agentic Toolkit 

  • Use agentic AI to complete a Simulink engineering task with review checkpoints, simulation, verification, and documentation

  • Improve consistency and incorporate domain knowledge for Simulink workflows using custom skills

Agentic AI Fundamentals (0.75 hrs) 

Objective: This chapter introduces a structured view of agentic AI, focusing on context, tools, and agentic loops. Agents are engineering tools, enabling a structured interaction approach that aligns with established engineering practices.

  • Differentiate agentic AI from traditional chat-based workflows 

  • Explain the roles of context, tools, and review loops in agentic systems

  • Identify project scope boundaries and permission considerations for agent usage 

  • Describe the function of skills and MCP within Simulink workflows

Simulink Agentic Toolkit Fundamentals (2.0 hrs) 

Objective: This chapter demonstrates how agents can be connected and used directly with Simulink. A reliable human-in-the-loop approach is established for building, inspecting, and modifying models, enabling productive use of agents in day-to-day engineering tasks.

  • Establish a connection between agents and the Simulink environment 

  • Explore available toolkit skills and tools

  • Execute Simulink tasks using an agent 

  • Inspect, build, and modify Simulink models using agent support

Agentic Engineering Workflows (3.0 hrs) 

Objective: This chapter introduces a structured agent interaction flow that integrates with standard engineering practices. Planning, review, refinement, simulation, verification, debugging, and documentation are combined into a cohesive workflow, enabling reliable and traceable use of agents within engineering processes.

  • Plan scoped engineering tasks suitable for agentic execution 

  • Review, refine, and extend Simulink models with agent assistance

  • Simulate, verify, and debug model changes introduced through agent workflows 

  • Document engineering work produced with agent support

Custom Skills for Reusable Agent Behavior (1.25 hrs) 

Objective: This chapter focuses on defining and implementing custom skills to capture workflows, best practices, and domain knowledge. This enables agent behavior to become repeatable, consistent, and aligned with engineering standards, supporting scalable and structured usage across projects.

  • Identify opportunities for custom skills 

  • Define the structure and content of custom skills

  • Implement reusable workflow guidance using custom skills 

  • Apply domain knowledge and standards through custom skill design
