How to get the diameter of irregular image?

hi,I want to find the diameter of this image,can i use regionprops function? If I use to find majoraxis and minoraxis so which one i should choose for its diameter?Can someone help me?If u have any idea to idea or ways to find diameter then tell me.

How is the "diameter" of an irregular shape defined? Is it the largest straight line matching into the object? Or the mean length of all lines through the center?

I think the mean cross sectional distance would be pretty close to the Equivalent Diameter which is returned from regionprops().
To find the maximum Feret diameter, see the attached demo.
