potato surface defect detection

sir currently i am working on project name potato surface defect detection using matlab. many different methods are there, but i am not able to properly understand any method. please guide me or provide me some code for the same. please reply something.

But the larger question is, if you already have several different methods that do this, and you haven't been able to understand any of them, do I have any confidence that you will be able to understand a method that I recommend to you? I was able to find 8 papers on potato image analysis in just a few seconds by looking here: http://www.visionbib.com/bibliography/kwic/indexp.html Would my suggestions be any better than papers that people have worked on for months and gotten published in peer reviewed journals? I'm flattered if you think so.
