In R2016b as per the original question, the only way to use the library would have via its python binding. See the doc for guidance on how to call python libraries](https://www.mathworks.com/help/matlab/call-python-libraries.html).
Since R2019a, it is now possible to call directly into C++ libraries. See this blog post and the doc.
