Very simple tolerance solution

I just need to find the index of when the data first exceeds a value of 300.

If your goal is to find the first point where the tempterature exceeds 300, then write code targeted at that goal. So...

What is the condition?

hgtemp > 300

How can we find the FIRST index where that happens? Just use find.

find(hgtemp > 300, 1,'first')

In fact, this is not a problem about tolerances at all. Not even remotely. See that no tolerance was employed by the line of code I wrote, nor did I need one.
