Yes, MATLAB does work on a Mac, of any sort. I don't know what you have heard, but what you have heard is wrong in general.
The complete requirements are shown here:
https://www.mathworks.com/support/sysreq.html
In fact, I use MATLAB on my Mac, with no problems at all. As long as your computer satisfies those requirements, you will be able to use MATLAB.

What you might have heard is that if you have Retina display, then LiveScript might be difficult to read as Mathworks did not provide useful ways to set the script size. Using command-+ can expand the text.
My MacBook Pro happens to be the last non-Retina model, so I have not had to deal with the Retina difficulties myself.
By the way: remember that you can ask for a trial version.

Most toolboxes are supported on Mac, but a few are not. See the product availability page for more information.

suleman sarwar Are you using Catalina? There are a number of Catalina related problems. Some of those are resolved by R2019b Update 4.
Which MATLAB release are you using? Which MacOS release are you using? What do you observe when you try to use MATLAB ?

I have been trying to install this for 2 months now. No use. Support says that 2019b not works in catalina and I have to go to 2018 version. But, I cant practise any of the code tutorials which needs latest version 2019 or after. I tried installing R2020b version but same problem of beachball spinning. Each time I contact support, they just say remove magnet software or remove multiple version folders under Application Support. They even remotely accessed my machine and could not install this. It looks like matlab will not work in mac. I am keep raising tickets and the guidance is so poor.

Runs fine on my mac. Catalina, R2019b. (actually, only update 1.)
The question may be if you have something strange installed.

My experience is that the matlab doesnot run in my MacBook Air 2019. Is there a way I can run Matlab2020a in my laptop?

Deepak, which MacOS version are you using, and which version of MATLAB are you using? What problems are you observing?

I have catalina 10.15.3 and matlab 2019b and it's painful trying to run a code. I don't have any of the apps mentioned in other comments like "magnet". If anynoye knows how to make it improve it would be great.

The question may be how much memory you have?

On a Macbook Pro (Late 2011) runing High SIerra, matlab does not install. The system hangs up and needs to be restarted.

The release matters. Check if your Matlab release is supported on High Sierra.

Yes it is absolutely possible to install MATLAB on the new M1 MacBooks. But make sure you have enough memory and at least 8GB RAM in your device
