This is not possible in a completely automatic manner.
If you have a picture with in interior of Sol blocked out, exposing its outer-edge and space around it, then are you investigating solar prominences (in which case the bright edges are areas where signal might be), or are you hunting for Near Solar Objects (in which case dull dots as small as one pixel might be what you are looking for) ? Answer: exactly the same images are used for both purposes.
What is "background" for one purpose might be "signal" for another purpose.
