Modification of the Perona-Malik diffusion model

In this submission, we have modified the original Perona-Malik (PM) model to address its weaknesses. In particular, we have extracted a convex portion of the PM energy functional and integrated it to the Charbonnier energy functional. The resulting potential contains better mathematical properties (differentiability, convexity, and smoothness) and guarantees stability and unique solutions. Experimental results show that the proposed model produces visually appealing images that contain higher signal qualities. The corresponding paper of our work has been submitted to the Journal of Pattern Recognition for consideration.
