Applied Scientific Instrumentation makes a closed-loop servo control system for microscope stage movement called the MS2000. It has a simple serial port interface for reading current X, Y, and Z position of the microscope stage and setting them to new positions. This is a basic GUI to demonstrate these capabilities.
