This model simulates the transformer inrush current phenomenon, which occurs when a transformer is energized and its magnetic core enters saturation. During initial energization, if the transformer is switched at a point in the voltage waveform that leads to maximum flux, the core may saturate, causing a large transient current known as inrush current. This inrush can be several times the rated current and lasts for a few cycles. In this simulation, the transformer is simplified by considering only its magnetizing branch, modeled as a nonlinear inductor to represent the saturation characteristics of the core. Other effects such as winding resistance, leakage reactance, and residual flux are not included, focusing solely on the nonlinear magnetization behavior. This approach helps in understanding the basic mechanism of inrush current generation due to magnetic saturation in a simplified and computationally efficient way.
