Design of Boost Converter:
  • Step 1: Given: Vin=12V; Vout=18V; Fs= 25kHz; Pout=20W
  • Step 2: To find the value of resistor R=?
= 16.2 Ohms
  • Step 3: To find the Duty Ratio, D=?
D= 1 – (Vin/Vout) = 0.3333=33.33%
  • Step 4: To Find the value of inductor, L=?
= 48 microH
For operating in a continuous conduction mode, the value of L should be more than the designed value by 25%. Therefore, 60 microH is chosen.
  • Step 5: To Find the value of capacitor, C=?
= 16.45 microF
Note, , Which decides the rippling content at the output side.
