Why do I get a Service Error when reinstalling my network license manager on Windows?

When reinstalling the network license manager, I get the following error message:

Service Error

An error occurred when searching for the MATLAB License Server.

Could not open registry key.

If you are running a license manager service you must remove it before installing a new one.

I already removed the old license manager service using lmtools.exe, but it is still in Services under Administrative Tools in Windows. I have not rebooted the computer.

Before installing a new license manager service, the original service must be removed through the existing license manager. This can be done by opening lmtools.exe, going to the Config Services tab, and selecting "Remove Service."

After removing the license manager service, you must reboot the computer to clear the registry changes. Once restarted, a new license manager service can be installed.
