This error occurs when trying to activate a network license in the activation client. For a network license, only the license server machine is activated. The client installations are not activated.
To avoid this error, exit the activation client and save a copy of your license server's license.dat file into the $MATLABROOT\licenses folder (where $MATLABROOT is the directory where MATLAB is installed).
For more information about activating a network license, please see the instructions on the following support article:
Why is the installer asking for a license file when performing a client installation? Where do I find the license file?
For more information about installing on a client machine, see the following support article:
How do I install MATLAB, or other MathWorks products, on a client computer for a network license?
