See code for interactive manipulation

If I interactively use the menus and mouse to click my way to a solution, eg. importing data from a data file using the import data menu tab. Can I somehow see the scripting that's being done in the background? For example, I'm having trouble importing a data sheet containing empty data at random intervals, but I can easily import it using the menus...so I was hoping to see the background instruction for inspiration--kinda like recording a macro in excel, and then looking at the generated VBA code.

Can this be done?
