Startpoint optimizaion for Gaussian curve fitting

Hi all,

I would like to know how the startpoint for gaussian curve fitting is optimized. The code generated by the curve fitting toolbox fixs the startpoint rather than giving the function for startpoint optimization. So I am wondering where I can find anything about the algorithm or code for startpoint optimization process.
