How to assign a vector on sub-digagonals of a N*N matrix in MATLAB?

I have a vector with a specific length "n". I want to put a vector on the sub-diagonals of a N * N (N> n) matrix repeatedly. Something like what I have plotted in the attached figure. Any suggestion?
