Create vector of monthly means from arbitary time format and vector of sampled temperatures.

I am a student and Matlab novice looking to use 2 vectors to determine a monthly mean. One vector is time (mtime 1:22529), and the other is a vector of 6 hourly water column means (meancoltemp 1:22529) sampled from a moored oceanographic lab.

I would like to determine the monthly means. The data starts 1st April 2002 and ends 1st September 2017.

As I say, I'm a novice - I have tried a few different methods suggested by my university advisor which have all been incompatible. Any help appreciated and if you need more info please just ask.

I have tried using retime. I'm clearly doing something wrong!

The two variables are mtime and meancoltemp. There are more variables saved which were used to determine the mean. You can probably ignore all those.
