how to save values in matfile as array

i wanted to create a matfile...

stats=[ statmat1 statmat2 statmat3 ......... statmat24 statmat25 statmat26];

i did like this... each statmat1 to statmat26 contains 8 values... now when i save in the above manner the values are getting saved in one single row of matfile having 208 columns....

how can i save each statmat values in one matfile having 26 rows each having 8 column values... please reply...
