when plotting something the plot becomes messy

x = 0:pi/100:2*pi;
y = sin(x);
plot(x,y)

when i try to plot someting on matlab i always get messy plots. For an example i have used a very basic equation given above and my plot looks something like this,

Eranja - do those "artifacts" just appear on the figure where you are doing the plot or elsewhere in the MATLAB GUI? Which version of MATLAB and operating system are you using?
