x1= A([1,2,3,5,8],:)
x2= A([1,2,3,4,8],:)
x3=A([1,2,3,5,7],:)
x4=A([1,2,3,4,5,8],:)

        Why not make a cell array?
x{1}= A([1,2,3,5,8],:);
x{2}= A([1,2,3,4,8],:);
x{3}=A([1,2,3,5,7],:);
x{4}=A([1,2,3,4,5,8],:);
for i=1:4
    y{i}=x{i}/2;
end

				Maybe I misunderstood you, it works for me and produces a cell array (y) having matrix elements that are the elements of x divided by 2.
