I'm new to MATLAB, and have installed the Student version.
All is going well, but the tabs below the tool strip (FILE, VARIABLE etc.) are inactive.
Is this a feature of the Student version, and can I upgrade to Home to make theml live?
And ... what do they do anyway?:-)....

No, this has nothing to do with it being Student version.

Walter, thanks, that's interesting, but essentially I'd like to know if they can or should be activated....
I hope you can help, and that I am not wasting your time. A doco reference explaining the issue would be fine

The words "FILE" and "VARIABLE" and "CODE" are titles of the section of the ribbon, not intended to be active in themselves. All of the ribbon functions in the first block have to do with FILE operations All of the ribbon functions in the second block have to do with VARIABLE operations.

No they are just inactive texts, which are supposed to indicate groups of tools.
