regarding sqrt function error

hello frds

i have an error when i used sqrt function ex: i sqrt function for a 10000x1 size matrix it is an column vector of one 100*100 sized image all are gray values. the error i got is ??? Undefined function or method 'sqrt' for input arguments of type 'uint8'. what will be the problem , i could not understood
