"is a sequence" is too vague, {'a','q','t'} is a sequence of characters. {'pig','cat','platypus'} is a sequence of animal names or plain words, [1 12 123 1234] is a sequence of numbers. "Flag" is also too vague - what do you want the flag to mean or be used for? Is your sequence a sequence of identifiers for some event you've recorded? Do you want the "flag" to be an array which collects those instances in some way?

For anyone to be able to help you you need to give sufficient information about the problem at hand...
