Why are my IGISMAP downloaded shapefiles causing matlab to crash?

I am trying to create a map of australia using the mapping tool where I have the main states of Australia highlighted.

I download the shapefile 'AustraliapolygonAshmore and Cartier Islands_AL4-AL421' from IGIS.

When trying to read this my who matlab freezes and will not work, why is this? or does anyone have any shapefiles for australian states available?

my code is below

boundaries = shaperead('Ashmore and Cartier Islands_AL4-AL4.shp', 'UseGeoCoords', true);

geoshow(boundaries);
