How to copy axes with colormap?

I currently am working on a GUI that can export a plot to an image file using exportdlg. It takes the axes the plot is in and uses copyobj to copy the axes to an invisible figure for export. The system currently works for the most part but I have run into a problem with colormaps.

When using copyobj and exportdlg, the image file does not have my colormap applied at all but my axes shows the colormap applied in my gui.

How do I use copyobj or exportdlg to include my colormap?
