cat(3,e,d) % This is a pretty good pre alignment. So now FAIR can do the rest...

We do not have your function named extract so it is difficult for us to predict how it is intended to be called.
You could try
d = extract(@resample, rot, size(b,1)/2);
e = extract(a, size(b,1)/2);
but I would not be surprised if it fails.
