MATLAB's Depth Estimation from Stereo Video

Hello everybody!

While I was looking for the example of depth estimation using stereo video, a question popped in my mind. I would like to know which camera is the 'reference' when computing the distance from person to camera. In other words, is the distance computed from a "virtual" center between the two cameras? Is the distance computed from the left camera?
