How to read I/Q data in matlab

Hello, am wondering how can i read the I/Q data file inside matlab and from it to display the amplitude and phase i have tried this code:

fid = fopen(filename,'rb'); y = fread(fid,'uint8=>double'); y = y(1:2:end) + i*y(2:2:end); it read the file as binary but i couldn't figure out the rest. so is there any other way i can use or the one am using is correct? thanks.
