xlsread hangs standalone application

Hello, while using xlsread in Matlab (R2017a) for standalone application hangs the application. It also gives out of memory error i.e. parsing xls is exhausting all the memory. When I use the .mat files to read data its working fine. Please let me know how can i use xls read in standalone application.
