Hidden Morkov Model in Audio classification

Hello, I am studying Hidden Morkov model and its use in audio classification, i have gone through paper by Rabiner in speech recognition, but its difficult to understand the concepts of HMM, Forward and Backward algorithms, viterbi decoder and Baum welch algorithms. If we have multiple audio signals consisting of sounds of birds, planes or cars. How HMM and other algorithms work in this case to classify these signals. Can anybody share good explanation related to HMM and other algorithms which is easy to understand for beginners, as it is a very complex topic, i want to get the idea of working of these models.
