Saved figures open in Import Wizard

I saved a numbers of figures a while ago. Now I can open some of them as .fig files and the others open in an Import Wizard GUI! I am not able to edit the figures this way. Could someone please tell me what is happening here?

I have had the same problem. Since there is a mistake in Matlab’s preferences, the actual error occurred while saving the .fig-file. Thus, the figures you've already created are probably lost. However, to avoid this problem in future I'll quickly describe the workaround that solved the problem for me.

By typing in the command: prefdir

You’ll get the path with Matlab’s preference files. For instance: C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\MathWorks\MATLAB\R2012a

Now, you have to close Matlab.

After closing MatLab, you go to: C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\MathWorks\MATLAB

And rename the folder R2012a as R2012a_old

By doing that, Matlab will create new preference files during the following start up, and the error should not occur any more.
