I have been provided with some data files and my task is to read the data in the matlab and plot a graph. How do I do it?

for example, i have hundred sets of values for "a" and corresponding values of "b". I have to read the data in matlab and plot a graph. I am new to Matlab so kindly help me with the details of the procedure to do this.
