Hello,
I am looking for information on which matlab tool box to use for my senior design. I will be doing vibrational/modal analsysis on a structural beam segment using roving hammer test ( impact hammer with accelerometer), and as well measuring CNC structural beam deflection using accelerometers.
I understand I will need analog to digital signal converter for my pc, correct?
Which program(s) would help me and why.
Thank you,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
There are two toolboxes that jump out to me that seem like a good fit for your project.
Signal Processing Toolbox provides functions that let you study and characterize vibrations in mechanical systems. Use order analysis to analyze and visualize spectral content occurring in rotating machinery. Track and extract orders and their time-domain waveforms. Estimate the average spectrum of a signal as a function of order. Perform experimental modal analysis by estimating frequency-response functions, natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes. Plot stabilization diagrams.
This is a third-party toolbox that can perform similar operations to the Signal Processing Toolbox. If you are using any of the specific software that this toolbox supports, it may be a better option.
I would begin by looking into the first option. There are lots of examples throughout the documentation that would get you started. One potential factor is that if you are eligible for MathWorks technical support, you will receive much better service for the Signal Processing Toolbox than for the third-party tool.
Good luck with your senior project!
