Is there a remedy for the prolonged initialization time for older versions of matlab?

Before updating my license for this year, it took a few seconds to initialize Matlab 2009a or 2011a on start up, now it takes a few minutes. I do not have this problem with Matlab 2014b. What is the reason for the prolonged initialization time for older versions of Matlab, and is there a solution to this problem?

Thank you, the link you provided answered my question. An old license file was conflicting with my new license file, causing a long initialization time. By removing the old license file, the problem was solved.
