Using Matlab with SSH X-Forwarding and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

With my Ubuntu notebook (16.04 LTS), I am logging into a server by
ssh -X myname@server
and then by
matlab
I am opening Matlab (R2016b). Indeed, the Matlab window opens but, strange enough, all the text and folders are not displayed appropriately but in a huge mess and chaos (text disappears, folder disappear and empty spaces are displayed all over the display) and it is impossible to work with matlab.
Do you have an idea what is going wrong and how I can change that?

I'm having the exact same problem. On one client computer it has this weird behaviour, and on others (same user account, same Matlab version, same server) it works fine.
I can provide details of said computers, but I have no idea what could be useful, so I don't even know where to start. Hardware details? Xorg configuration (should be identical)? System config? I'm running Debian 8.8 jessie on both the client and the server.

Same problem, with Matlab R2021a, on a remote server operating Ubuntu 20.04.
The X11 forwarding works, but the Matlab window is a total mess, with large sections just turning black.
Any ideas out there?
