Hi,
I have recently upgraded to MatLab 2016b and now when I open a variable it opens as a text style view rather than a spreadsheet that I can edit (See screenshot)? I would be grateful to know how to change this back to spreadsheet view.
Thanks

am using macOS Sierra with R2016b. I tried openvar('A'). I also continue to get text style viewer... very annoying. I might also downgrade to 2015b, if i don't find a solution soon.

I just tested in Sierra with R2016b and I do not observe this.
Time to get more obscure:
If you are using Sierra, did you either install the R2016b patch for Sierra or else download after the patch started being built-in (about a month after Sierra was released) ?
Regardless of whether you are using El Capitan or Sierra, what shows up for
getenv('LANG')
?

Try running these commands on the MATLAB Command Window, and then restart MATLAB:
>> restoredefaultpath
>> savepath
Also, are you remote logging into the MAC machine?

why would setting the path to my code back to factory settings help with a variable viewer?

Resetting the path to the default will eliminate any functions you (or a function you ran) has added to the path that may be shadowing a MathWorks-written function used by the variable viewer.
If trying that doesn't resolve the problem, please contact Technical Support (using the Contact Us link in the upper-right corner of this page) and work with them to determine the cause of this behavior.
