How to remove gaps for weekends and holidays in price charts

When I use the highlow function (Financial Toolbox) to plot a price chart with high, low, open, close and date data for stock prices, Matlab also plots gaps for days where there is no data such as weekends and holidays. Anyone knows how to tell Matlab not to plot these gaps? This should be a very basic function, yet I cannot find any hint in the official documentation.
The gaps are not displayed in the chart when I leave out the 'Dates' Property from the highlow function, but then Matlab doesn't know which date belongs to which value and consequently the dates cannot be labelled correctly. Therefore, it is not a real viable workaround to the problem.
