Problem with colormapeditor not reading max and min or custom cmap

I'm having trouble with colormapeditor. I defined my own custom cmap and applied it, and it looks fine. My problem I think is my CData is has extremely small values.

Basically, when I call on colormapeditor the color data min/max are set to zero... so when any changes are applied I get an error because [0 0] as a limit means nothing is colored.

I can manually scale my data to a much larger value around zero and have it work perfectly, but is it possible to have colormapeditor work without this handicap?

My data is in the e-7 magnitude range, to get an idea (micrometer/second velocity).
