Why no image display in App Designer?

App Designer looks nice compared to GUIDE, but I'm surprised that there is no support for display of 2D images. Is any planned?

Yes, this is planned to be added as part of App Designer's UIAXES support.

Starting in R2019a you can use the uiimage function to create an image component in App Designer Apps. See the following post for more information.

If you'd like to use App Designer in R2016a, there is a work around for adding an image, Insert image in AppDesigner GUI
