How to convert a sparse matrix to CSR format?

I am just learning Digital image processing. Now I have a sparse matrix which I needs to multiply with another vector. But since the matrix is sparse Matlab is not able to hold the matrix. I tried googling how to convert in Matlab. I did not understand. Can you please help me in this ?
