create a mask of a section of image of brain

Hi, as my illustration points out I want to create a mask of only the area inside the red highlighted part. Is it possible to do it, if you look closely at the image, the area outside the mask is more darker gray, whereas inside the mask is a bit lighter gray. Finding it difficult.
