MATLAB's filter function

Hi Everyone, I was hoping someone could help me understand how MATLAB's filter function applies the Scale values?

I have exported a filter (designed in fdatool) as an object with an SOS matrix and a Scale vector.

How does MATLAB apply the scale values when I use output=filter(Hd,input); ?
