Hi Folks
I have created a flexible beam in SimMechanics by superimposing the flexibility onto a rigid body, as described in some of the examples. The response is the same between the theoretical beam and the beam in SImMechanics. I would however like to join 2 beams together with a weld. I assumed the response would be the same as the response from the derived beam with two elements, but this is not the case.
Why is this? I am obviously doing something wrong. Any help will be appreciated.

According to the documentation you can only connect a weld joint between two rigid bodies. In your example it appears you have one connected to ground.

Please also consider using SimMechanics Second Generation Technology for your models (available starting with release R2012a). You can find flexible body models and links to other resources on the MATLAB Central File Exchange:
Thanks,
