installing MAT-file version 7.3

I am getting the error:

Warning: Variable 'wavedata' was not saved. For variables larger than 2GB use MAT-file version 7.3 or later.

from the statement:

save("tmp\wavedata_0301","wavedata");

I have matlab version R2024b update 24.2.0.2740171

is the MAT-file version 7.3 something that has to be added to the installation or does it have to be enabled in some way?

From the SAVE documentation:

save("tmp\wavedata_0301","wavedata","-v7.3");
%                                   ^^^^^^^

That worked. It never occured to me that the version of this sort would need to be specified in the save command.
