Unfortunately, there is a known issue with the 13th and 14th generation Intel processors that causes them to error sporadically. More information about this issue is available from Intel on their Core 13th and 14th Gen Desktop Instability Root Cause Update page.
If you believe you are running into this issue, please first confirm that your CPU is one of the affected models. Notably these include:
- i9-13900(k/kf/ks)
- i7-13700(k/kf)
- i5-13600(k/kf)
- i9-14900(k/kf/ks)
- i7-14700(k/kf)
- i5-14600(k/kf)
Note: It is possible that this issue occurs on other 13/14th gen processors as well, but these are the ones most likely to exhibit this behavior.
To help confirm if the CPU is indeed the issue, please try running Intel's Processor Diagnostic Tool. And see if any tests fail. Please note that just because all the tests have passed does not guarantee the CPU is functioning properly as the crashes are sporadic and may not always happen.
Once you have confirmed your processor is one of the ones that is impacted, there are a few potential options that could help resolve the crash:
- Update your computer's BIOS to the latest one provided by the motherboard vendor
- Disable TurboBoost
- Decrease the clock rate of your processor
- If none of these options resolve your issue, you may need to reach out to Intel or your computer vendor to get the processor replaced, as it is possible that there is irreversible damage to it.
