I do not want to share the source (a prepared MATLAB function) with the community. What is the most direct way to prepare a compiled version of the function so that the users (having Matlab) can run it?

If the idea is to obscure the source code, consider,
This is not so much "compiling" the source code as encrypting it, but that sounds more like what you are trying to do.

Note that pcode is considered to be more "encoding" rather than "encrypting".
The pcode algorithm changed a few releases ago to make it more obscure. I have not seen anyone post indicating that they have reverse-engineered the new pcode algorithm -- but that doesn't mean that no-one has done it.
pcode should be considered to be a "notable nuisance" level of protection, but definitely not "stops most nation-states" level of protection.
