For that old of a release, the license terms require that you obtain the MCR from the person who compiled the code to make the executable. Mathworks would not make it available to other people. We never did quite figure out why Mathworks choose that approach; they eventually changed how they handle MCR, but that change was not retroactive.
Note: for those old MCR, it was also not permitted for anyone to make MCR available to an uncontrolled audience, such as by tossing it up on a web site. People who had used the Professional / Commercial MATLAB Compiler license (but not the Academic license) were permitted to make the .exe available to anonymous users, but they had to control distribution of MCR, either through email or through a non-anonymous login process for FTP or web sites.
Shrug. They made the rules, we just have to live with them.
