Problem saving in mounted drive

I mounted an sshfs drive on my mac. When I tried saving a variable in the drive, I get the error below. I know it's not a permission issue as I can mkdir in the same drive using Matlab. What could be causing this?
Error using save Unable to write to MAT-file /Mount/NTS/maps.mat
